What’s it like to go on an Iron Lady Golf Retreat?

Have you ever wondered what it’s actually like to go on an Iron Lady golf retreat? Jenn Murray shares her experience from her recent golf retreat to Cabot Links in today’s post…

What were you most excited about when you signed up for the golf retreat?

Coastal golf! The whole Cabot experience really is unique in Canada and I was pumped to play authentic links golf for the first time. Cabot is special because it's this elite golf experience on the edge of the world but it's balanced by east coast hospitality and charm - it's incomparable to any other golf adventure that I've been on so far.

Did you have any hesitations about going on the golf retreat?

Not a single one. This is my 6th golf trip (3rd with Iron Lady Golf). I can't say I knew what to expect, but I knew that it would be perfectly planned. Iron Lady puts so much energy and effort into designing these retreats so thoughtfully and has authentic connections at every place we visit. Travelling with the Iron Ladies is always a joy because we are so well received and every detail is taken care of.

Did you know anyone going on the golf trip or did you sign up as a single? If someone didn't know anyone and was nervous to sign up on their own, what advice would you give them?

This time around I knew a handful of the women from other golf retreats and from league play. The ones I didn't know I connected very quickly with and it feels like we've known each other for years (which is admittedly, a little bizarre, after only a few days).

My first golf retreat with Lindsay was to Mayakoba playing El Camaleón and for that one I signed up knowing nobody. I went into the golf trip with very few expectations and was open to meeting and playing with new people and not surprisingly had a blast. You can make these trips your own and spend time doing your own thing or you always have a built-in group to share meals with or go on hikes/day trips with.

What 3 things did you love most about the golf retreat?

1. Cabot is so beautifully designed and you can see the breathtaking ocean views from almost everywhere onsite (the rooms, the restaurants, almost every golf hole).

2. Ocean access. There's something about being able to take a quick ocean dip to energize you before your round - or after to take away your golfers' pains!

3. The people. The intergenerational friendships developed with the incredible women on the trip, chatting with other interesting golf travellers we met from all around the world, and the unparalleled staff at Cabot who consistently went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience we possibly could.

What did you do other than golf?

We hit up the beach a few times, went to the local track for some live horse racing action, ate tons of great seafood, were treated to lots of great live music and there was so much singing and dancing - even a comedy show!

What would you tell someone who hasn't been on an Iron Lady golf retreat yet?

These retreats are incredible because you get to push yourself to improve your game on world famous courses - but with so much support. There are clinics in the morning with course-specific golf tips for you to take out and apply instantly. An Iron Lady coach also joins you on-course for a few holes each round to provide individual assistance and encouragement.

You get to explore beautiful settings with new friends and there is always a great sense of community and shared accomplishment for pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone. I always return home from these retreats refreshed and with increased confidence which helps me perform better in all areas of my life.
