Dressing for Success on the Golf Course

If you’re new to golf and aren’t sure what to wear on the course - we’re here to help! Keep reading for ideas on what to wear for your first golfing experience to help you look the part and feel at ease and comfortable on the course.

What to wear on top…

There are plenty of options when it comes to golf shirts or tops. You can choose between polo shirts, golf-specific tops, or even a simple collared shirt. Opt for moisture-wicking fabric to keep you cool and dry during your game. A collared shirt is what’s most common to wear, and some people choose a long sleeve sun shirt to stay protected from the sun without having to apply sunscreen. Most golf courses ask that you wear either a collared shirt or a shirt with sleeves or a collar, meaning you can wear a sleeveless top with a collar or a tee shirt style top with short or long sleeves without a collar.

What to wear on the bottom…

A golf skirt/skort (a skirt with built in shorts) or golf shorts are a comfortable choice. If it’s a cooler day or you’re looking for sun protection, golf pants or capris are a great option. Look for ones made from lightweight and stretchy materials to ensure unrestricted movement. Pockets are a handy feature to hold balls, tees and ball markers. Most golf courses ask you to wear shorts or skorts at not too short of a length. Black is a great option to start with since it will go with a variety of tops.

Shoes…

Golf shoes are great for providing traction and stability during your swings, however if you’re new to golf, you can easily play in a pair of running shoes that have some traction. If you want to invest in golf shoes, choose a pair that are comfortable and give you support.

Socks…

Don't forget comfortable golf socks to pair with your golf or running shoes. They should be moisture-wicking to keep your feet dry during your game. If you’re wearing a skort or shorts, you’ll want to choose low ankle socks.

On your head…

A baseball style hat, wide-brimmed hat or visor are all great additions to your golf outfit. They will not only protect you from the sun but also add a stylish touch to your look and help you see the ball and course on sunny days. If you have long  hair, you’ll want to pull it back to play - it’s tough to swing and see with your hair down.

Layers…

Depending on the weather, you might need an extra layer. A light sweater, vest, or a golf-specific or athletic style jacket can keep you warm without restricting your swing

While it's essential to look the part, comfort and functionality should be your top priorities. Golf requires a wide range of motion, so make sure your outfit allows for that. Before your first golf game, check the specific dress code of the golf course you'll be playing on, as requirements can vary from one place to another. Some courses are more relaxed, while others may have stricter guidelines.

By choosing the right clothing and accessories, you'll not only feel more confident but also be better prepared to enjoy the game and the beautiful surroundings. So, put on your golf outfit, grab your clubs, and get ready for a fantastic day out on the course!
