Golf Simulators 101 - Tips for playing at your first indoor golf simulator
Visiting an indoor golf simulator as a beginner golfer can be a fun and productive way to practice and learn the game and get ready for the summer season. Here's a list of things to do and bring for your session:
Book a Tee Time: If you’re going on your own or with family or friends, you’ll need to call ahead or use the simulator location’s online booking system to book your tee time. If you’re playing in one of our Iron Lady Winter Leagues, your tee times are all booked for you!
Dress Comfortably: Wear comfortable, athletic clothing that’s easy to swing in and clean running shoes. You might get warm while playing so dressing in layers is a good idea.
Bring Golf Clubs (but you don’t need your whole bag): If you have your own golf clubs, bring them along. If you want to bring your whole bag you can, but all you really need is a driver, hybrid, 7 iron, wedge and putter. If you're just starting and don't have clubs yet, many simulators provide rental clubs. You can inquire about this when booking your session.
Golf Balls: Indoor simulators often provide golf balls, but it's a good idea to check beforehand. If not, bring your own. You won't need many since you'll be hitting them into a screen or net.
Golf Glove: A golf glove can help with your grip and control. If you have one, bring it along.
Water & Snacks: Some simulators offer food and drinks, but it’s always a good idea to bring your own water bottle and a healthy snack for energy. Staying hydrated is essential.
Warm Up: Most simulators have a “range” option on the screen where you can hit balls to warm up. Spend some time both stretching and warming up before starting your round or practice session. Check out our favourite indoor warm up stretches here.
Golf Etiquette: It’s good to familiarize yourself with basic golf etiquette, even if you're indoors. Respect the pace of play, take turns, and keep noise to a minimum to not disturb others.
Lessons: Learning golf indoors in the winter months is the perfect way to pick up golf or improve your game. It’s a no pressure environment where you can focus on the fundamentals and creating a great swing. Iron Lady offers indoor learning clinics for all levels in many locations across the GTA. Lastly, have fun! Indoor golf simulators are a fantastic way to learn and practice the game, so enjoy the experience, regardless of your skill level.
Golf can be a challenging game, especially for beginners. Approach your session with an open mind and patience and excitement.
